CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
Sherrill finished her career as one of the most decorated Seminoles softball players in school history. No one has played more games in the Garnet and Gold than Sydney Sherrill who played 283 games in her time at Florida State. She ranks 10th in FSU history with a .352 batting average, third in slugging percentage with a .622, second in on-base percentage with a .474, 2nd in runs with 225, sixth in hits with 281, first in doubles with 82, third in home runs with 43, third in RBI with 209, second in total bases with 496, second in walks with 186 and second all-time in program history with 555 assists. Sherrill also holds the single-game school record for home runs in a game with three against NC State (5/7/22)
2022 (Senior - RS)
Started all 61 games at third base during the 2022 season… finished the season with a .321 batting average (52-for-162) with a team-high 16 doubles and 49 runs scored, she also led the team in walks with 51 and on-base percentage with a .484 ob%… she also had nine home runs and 41 RBI… Sherrill finished the season a perfect 11-for-11 in stolen bases… finished the season with a .975 fielding percentage with 55 putouts and a team-high 141 assists… was named the ACC’s Defensive Player of the Year for the third consecutive year and was named to the All-ACC First Team for the fourth time… had 10 multi-RBI games and eight multi-hit games in 2022… had four three-RBI games, including one against Pitt (3/4) where she hit a three-run home run, against Virginia Tech (4/10) where she hit a bases-clearing double, against Clemson (4/23) where she went 3-for-4 and against NC State (5/7) where she went 3-for-5 with three home runs… her three home runs against NC State were the most in a single game by a player in FSU history… went 3-for-5 with a home run in FSU’s 4-2 win over No. 7 Florida in Gainesville (3/6), her home run in the 10th inning was the go-ahead run.
2021 (Junior - RS)
Started all 63 games at third base during the 2021 season… finished the season with a .304 batting average (51-for-168) with a team high 15 doubles and 47 runs scored, she also led the team with 51 walks and a .464 on base percentage… also had one triple, two home runs and 34 RBI, she was 15-for-17 in stolen bases… finished the season with a .974 fielding percentage with 67 putouts and 121 assists… became the ACC all-time doubles leader on April 23 at Louisville when she recorded two doubles… had nine multi RBI games… recorded three RBI in the second game of the season in FSU’s 9-2 win over No. 24 Missouri (2/12)… went 2-for-3 with two RBI against Florida Gulf Coast (2/27)… went 6-fo-10 with seven runs scored in four games against Notre Dame (4/2-4)… went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, two RBI and one home run against Pitt (5/7)… was 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run and a home run against Duke in the ACC Tournament (5/14)… recorded six RBI on five hits in during the WCWS… helped lead the Seminoles to a win in the first game of the Championship Series after going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run scored.sic.
2020 (Junior)
Started at third base for all 24 games played of the shortened 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, finishing second on the team with a .344 batting average (22-for-64) while leading the Seminoles with 26 walks and 23 runs scored…also had four doubles, four home runs, 16 RBI, a .594 slugging percentage and a .543 on-base percentage…was perfect in 77 defensive opportunities at third base on the season…her four doubles increased her career total to 51, which tied Alex Powers (2014-17) and Jessie Warren (2015-18) for the FSU career record…the 51 doubles also sits in a tie for fifth in ACC history…her four home runs gave her 32 home runs for her career, which ranks seventh all-time in FSU history…drew a pair of walks against No. 1 Alabama on February 7…set a career high with four runs scored on February 8 against Detroit Mercy on 2-for-2 hitting with a walk and a home run…walked twice and scored a pair of runs in an 8-0 victory over No. 1 Alabama on February 8…hit a pair of doubles on February 9 against Detroit Mercy, along with a walk, three RBI and a run scored…drew a walk, singled and scored against FAMU on Feb 12…walked, hit an RBI single and scored versus No. 13 Minnesota on February 14…walked twice on Feb 15 against No. 23 Northwestern…hit a solo home run against No. 2 UCLA on February 16…had a pair of hits, including an RBI double against No. 19 Baylor on February 28…was 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored on March 1 against Villanova…scored three runs, walked and added a home run against Holy Cross…tied a career high with four walks and added a single in a road win at No. 22 UCF on March 4…posted three hits, including a double, and two RBI on March 6 against Longwood…drew three walks and scored three runs on March 8 against Detroit Mercy.
2019 (Sophomore)
Shined for the Seminoles in 2019, both offensively and defensively, as the sophomore started all 65 games of the season and lead the team in eight different categories, including a .405 batting average, 75 hits, 18 doubles and 16 home runs…also added 60 RBI, 60 runs scored, 34 walks and was a perfect 8-for-8 on stolen base attempts… was one of seven different Seminole players to have at least 10 HR on the season and one of six to record at least 40 RBI…hit a single, walked, stole a base and scored a run against UNCW on opening day (Feb 8)…hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning against Iowa State on February 8, carrying the Seminoles to a 1-0 victory over the Cyclones…had a double, a home run and two runs scored against UNCG on February 9…drove in two runs as part of a nine-run first inning against UNCW on February 10…drew two walks against Ohio State on February 15…went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a home run, four RBI and two runs scored against Minnesota on February 16…walked twice, hit a double and scored two runs on February 17 against Florida Atlantic…hit a two-run home run against No. 6 Tennessee on February 17…walked twice and scored a run against Elon on Feb 22…batted 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored against Lipscomb on February 23…closed out the Unconquered Invitational with a home run, a double, three RBI and two runs scored versus Samford on February 24…hit a pair of doubles on March 2 against Toledo…was 2-for-3 from the plate against Louisiana Tech with a double and a run scored…tied a season high with three singles at UCF on March 3…combined to go 4-for-7 with a double, a home run, two RBI and three runs scored during the doubleheader at Grand Canyon on March 6…drew three walks and scored a run at No. 12 Arizona on March 8…walked and scored a run in the series finale against the Wildcats on March 10…singled, walked and stole two bases versus Notre Dame on March 15…hit a two-run home run on March 16 against the Irish…tied a career high with three runs scored on March 20 against North Florida…hit an RBI single against NC State on March 23…drove in three runs on a bases-clearing double on March 29 at Virginia and added a single, a walk and two runs scored…batted 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in the series finale at UVA on March 31…hit a pair of singles on the road at No. 8 Florida on April 3…walked and hit an RBI double on April 6 at Louisville…drove in a career-high five RBI on April 8 against the Cardinals, including a seventh-inning grand slam…recorded a single, a stolen base and a home run at UNC on April 14…posted the first multi-HR game of her career on April 15 against the Tar Heels on 3-for-5 hitting with three runs scored…went 2-for-3 with a double against No. 6 Florida on April 17…hit a solo home run against Boston College (April 19)…walked and drove in two runs on April 21 against the Eagles…was 2-for-3 from the plate with a double, two RBI and a run scored in the series opener against Duke on April 26…had multiple hits in all three games at Syracuse (May 3-5), including a pair of doubles on May 4…hit a solo home run against Notre Dame in the ACC semifinals on May 10…drove in the game-ending run on an RBI double to center to close out the 8-0 win in six innings against North Carolina in the ACC Championship Game on May 11…brought in the first FSU run of the game in each game of the NCAA Tallahassee Regional…was 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, a walk, two RBI and two runs scored on May 18 against USF…hit the fourth of four consecutive home runs on May 18 against USF, which set a school record, an NCAA Tournament record and tied the NCAA record…drove in a run with a sacrifice fly on May 24 against No. 13 Oklahoma State in the second game of the NCAA Tallahassee Super Regional.
High School
Attended Southmoore High School…led the SaberCats to the 2017 6A Oklahoma State Championship…batted .611 for the season and was named The Oklahoman’s Big All-City Player of the Year…named 2017 Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year…competed for the USA Junior Women’s National Team during the summer of 2017.
