OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma — The Oklahoma City Spark is thrilled to announce that standout infielder Sydney Sherrill will be returning for the 2025 season! A former Florida State Seminole, Sherrill is one of the best third basemen in softball history, and she helped lead the Spark to a championship in the 2024 season. Born and raised in Moore, Oklahoma, she joins Jayda Coleman, Jocelyn Alo, Kinzie Hansen, Alex Storako, Haley Lee, Alynah Torres, Rylie Boone, Rachel Becker, and Amber Fiser on the list of returners for the 2025 season.
Sherrill wasted no time making an impact on the Spark roster, being named the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year and upholding that standard during the 2024 season. At Florida State, Sherrill finished her career as one of the most decorated Seminoles softball players in school history. In addition to being on the 2018 National Championship team, Sherrill holds the record for most games played (283) in the Garnet and Gold. She ranks 10th in FSU history with a .352 batting average, third in slugging percentage with a .622, second in on-base percentage with a .474, 2nd in runs with 225, sixth in hits with 281, first in doubles with 82, third in home runs with 43, third in RBI with 209, second in total bases with 496, second in walks with 186 and second all-time in program history with 555 assists.
When she’s not playing for the Spark, Sherrill is a volunteer coach at Oklahoma Christian University in Edmond. Before joining the Eagles, Sherrill joined the GCU Softball as volunteer coach in 2022 and was promoted to an assistant coach in July of 2023. In 2024, Sherrill assisted in coaching the winningest season in GCU softball history (50 wins), with the Lopes earning their consecutive WAC Championship title, and third-straight automatic bid to the NCAA Regional, where they competed in the regional finals for the first time in program history.
